DEVILS DON'T FORGET – An amnesiac tries desperately to not remember his past, convinced that he was an accessory to some unspeakable evil. But his amnesia provides no refuge when devils he had hoped to forget return to collect their due. Randall Colburn, Chicago Playwright, Goes Stream of Consciousness on PUT MY _____ IN YOUR _______

Randall Colburn's Stream of Consciousness Review

Randall Colburn has agreed to put down some words about his impressions from PUT MY ______ IN YOUR _______. However, as in the past with other reviews of Mammals shows, he has done so as complete stream of conscious monologue. So... here it is!

Crispin Glover is my favorite actor and Adam Dodds sounded like Crispin Glover in the fucking most awesome way during Put My ____ in Your _____ last Saturday but that isn’t why it was the most fun I’ve had at the theater since I watched my friend Jessica forget her lines and start swearing during a misbegotten production of Biloxi Blues in college and that isn’t why I laughed and got fucking moved and Jamie Bragg and I were like holy shit surrounded by an enraptured audience having a goddamn riot amid the ultramodern Warhol Factory-like setting festooned with TVs ablaze with the unnerving visages of the cast licking lollipops and mumbling silent mutterings at unnatural clips and all those monologues which I figured Bob wrote but found out the cast wrote and that is incredibly impressive in how they embodied such melancholic violent spooky curlicues of conversational camaraderie with the audience I especially dug Ted Evans’ unspooling of his myriad mutilations and Anne Sonneville’s account of fire and demons delivered in an unsettling timbre on par with my childhood boogeyman and I mean it was really in seeing how damaged they all were so fucking damaged that highlighted in such a moving way their desperate need for Adam Dodds’ crytic Snail and his eerie brothel of filmmaking hedonists each desperately searching for the next pair of eyes and lips and cocks to fill the (pun intended) holes in their hearts and psyches and dreams and hopes and combusted happiness havens and Erin Orr rocked it as usual cause that’s what she does and the scene where she teaches Stacie Hauenstein to dance to Tainted Love was by turns completely joyous and joyously complete in its ability to forge a mellifluous ensemble and I love ensembles man like when they’re really clicking and protagonists can be so boring when you don’t have a killer crowd surrounding them but this show was so not boring and I get bored a lot like even during shows I really like there’s times when like you’re all like DO SOMETHING or something but I never felt like during this because out of every Mammals show I’ve seen this is the one where I really think I got exactly what y’all were getting at this idea of need and community and pain and the endless desire for some kind of unfathomable connection that we always think will materialize out of out hedonistic monkeyshines but never does and we can only come to terms with our loneliness and isolation and try not to hate ourselves to the point where we’re nothing without the intoxicating elixirs springing from any number of ephemeral ghosts and gods and who would think that’s what I would get out of a show where I consistently chuckled and gasped and was like, “Oh, hey, Dennis Frymire is blowing somebody right now.” See it

Meet the Cast - Bert Matias

Bert Matias as the 'BOXMAN'

Bert is happy to be doing his second production with The Mammals. His first, Bob Fisher's hit show "Seven Snakes" in the Fall of 2010 was a total fun trip for him artistically. It was such a great project to do, not to mention all the positive reviews and notices it generated in the critics' corner and the chance to meet a new set of theatre friends making it more worthwhile. He thinks "Seven Snakes" also brought him luck when his next theatre gig happened to be last January in New York, when in the midst of the great Blizzard of 2011, he was hired in the off-Broadway world premiere of Kyoung H. Park's "disOriented." He played Ouiharaboji, a gambling Korean father and grandfather living in Seoul with a crippled wife awaiting the visit of their daughter and grandson from Yonkers, NY. While working in the Big Apple, Bert's luck continued, receiving a call from Chicago's Goodman Theatre offering him the role of Fulgencio (Firs, in The Cherry Orchard) in "El Nogalar," the Teatro Vista production of Tanya Saracho's premiere showing of the Hispanicized 'Cherry Orchard-inspired play." It was, again, a first for Bert, working in his initial Goodman acting job last March-April. Before he played the role of Chupa Fuerte in "Seven Snakes" with The Mammals, Bert lived with his wife in Seattle where his theatre credits included Tiresias in "Revenge and Sorrow in Thebes" with Stony Soup Theatre, Dr. Waxling in Balagan Theatre's "Search and Destroy" and as a member of the ensemble in Book-It Repertory Theatre's world premiere of "Snow Falling On Cedars." Look for Bert every Christmas season when "Fred Claus" gets its annual TV airtime; he plays the Eskimo musher who gave the Vince Vaughn character a ride on his dog sled to the North Pole. He wants to thank Bob Fisher for this valuable continued opportunity with The Mammals players.

The Mammals Theatre Company presents

PUT MY ______ IN YOUR ______ aka Your 15 Minutes of Finger

written and directed by Bob Fisher

Alice in Wonderland meets Andy Warhol's Silver Factory - What happens when two sisters enter a weird world where pop art mutant thugs rumble and shaman-celebrity darlings deal in high powered hallucinogens in hopes to garner power, fame and unconditional love?

PUT MY ______ IN YOUR ______ aka Your 15 Minutes of Finger is a tale of two sisters dealing with the loss of their mother. One sister wants to live life to the fullest while the other sister wishes to shelter and preserve everything precious to her no matter the cost.

PUT MY ______ IN YOUR ______ aka Your 15 Minutes of Finger
is also a Pop Art Fairy Tale mash up where a bizarre Warhol-like provocateur attempts to seduce and entrap beautiful youths using addictive hallucinogens that he secrets from mutated glands.

Originally workshopped in the spring of 2009 with the Right Brain Project, PUT MY ______ IN YOUR ______ aka Your 15 Minutes of Finger is an incredibly unique play, wild, bizarre, but still touching and sweet.

Great Postive Press from Timeout Chicago for THE DREAM JOURNAL OF DOCTOR JEKYLL

TIMEOUT CHICAGO SAYS "SPOT ON...ENGROSSING...GROTESQUE...HILAROIUS"

Collaboratively penned by the Mammals’ committee of writers yet surprisingly cohesive, Jekyll is a grotesque, hilarious play-within-a-play. Professor Oliver Mastodon Peale is in possession of the authentic journal of Dr. Henry Jekyll. With the help of his faithful servant Hunch Front (yes, the opposite of a hunchback), Peale presents the contents of this tortured tome via a team of hypnotized somnambulists, used, we’re told, because their zombie-like state renders a performance superior to that of mere actors... Their quest involves love found and lost, blood rituals, demon possession, and a fair number of cunnilingus and rape jokes... the audacity of the jokes, the beautiful Victorian costumes and set, and the spot-on performances make for an engrossing night.

Another Review from Chicago Theatre Stalwart, Joe Janes!!!

Joe Janes - "This is Chicago Fringe Theater at its best"

"The acting is topnotch led by the triumvirate of Scott Barsotti, Gabe Garza and Skyler Schrempp as Jekyll, Hyde and Jekyll's mother, respectively. The production is a little steampunk, a little sideshow, a little horror. There's also more women in this Mammals show than any other I have seen and they are strong, memorable characters, especially Jekyll's mother, Alice and Jekyll's love interest, Eve (Sarah Scanlon). There is also music performed live by the actors and it is both beautiful and haunting... The Professor has a lovely, riveting monologue near the end of the show.

Chicago Reader Highly Recommends - THE DREAM JOURNAL OF DOCTOR JEKYLL

Highly Recommended - Chicago Reader

"The script's seven credited writers come up with some funny and affecting stuff, such as Dr. Jekyll's brotherly relationship with his all-id alter ego, Mr. Hyde, and a series of scenes imagining Jekyll with a girlfriend...Bob Fisher's inventively grotesque staging boasts gripping, ghoulish performances, unsettling live flute and violin music, and John Ross Wilson's fantastically lurid chamber-of-horrors set."

New City Recommends - THE DREAM JOURNAL OF DOCTOR JEKYLL!

NEW CITY - RECOMMENDED!

"Scott Barsotti embodies the refined but bloodless Jekyll; Gabe Garza scores as perverted frat-boy Hyde. The usually testosterone-infused Mammals environment makes room for some terrific female performances; Skyler Schrempp as Jekyll’s mad-dog genius mother and Sarah Scanlon as his take-no-crap lover display enviable acting and musical chops.

John Ross Wilson’s ornate rag-and-bone shop set makes great use of the deep, narrow space; Heidi Jade Warriner’s Victorian shabby chic costumes give the show its ragged, dreamy sparkle. "
